OUR VISION
In Film Studies at Kingsbury, we strive to guide students to appreciate the nuances of the moving image and critically analyse texts and the process. We seek to inspire learners to articulate their own perspectives whilst developing curiosity and understanding of key concepts in our world. Ultimately, our aim is to inspire learners to understand how to and be able to create their own works. We are dedicated to enrich, encourage and empower students to ensure they can achieve the best outcomes and increase their lifelong long love of learning.

YEAR 8
As part of the Technology rotation, Film Studies has been introduced in Year 8. During this unit we are building strong foundations in Subject specific terminology in order to increase knowledge around film and the ability to analyse micro feature. Students build on and apply their English Language and Literature skills, dovetailing nicely into them being able to thrive during the Key Stage 4 GCSE Film Studies, if chosen as an option.

GCSE FILM STUDIES
At Kingsbury, we follow the Eduqas GCSE Film Studies course. Slumdog Millionaire might be introduced in Summer Term, Year 10, depending on the needs of the cohort.

| Year 10 | Introduction to Film Studies. Through an exploration of different films, we will gain a clearer grasp on the Film making process: Production, Distribution and Exhibition. We will also cement our understanding of mise-en-scène, Sound, Cinematography and Editing in order to analyse and create. History of film&²Ô²ú²õ±è;– Component 1 Understanding the progression of technology in the Film making process over time. | Singin’ in the rain – Component 1 Exploration of the social issues presented in the film and analysis of the micro features that present them. Grease – Component 1 Exploration of the social issues presented in the film and analysis of the micro features that present them. Musical Film Comparative Study – Component 1 Exploring and comparing the genre conventions in the two films. Skyfall – Component 2 Contemporary UK Film | Non-Examination Assessment – Component 3 ‘Production and Evaluation’ This component assesses the ability to apply knowledge and understanding of film to a production and its accompanying evaluative analysis. Learners produce: • One genre-based film extract • One evaluative analysis of the production, where learners analyse and evaluate their production in relation to comparable, professionally-produced films or screenplays. |
